Well today is Good Friday and despite living in Japan, Kiyomi, Maia, Emma and myself managed to have hot cross buns for breakfast. We didn’t make them nor buy them in the shops here. We bought them back in January when we were in Australia on holiday.

Hotcross Buns

Normally I’m not too keen on people buying things for Easter straight after Christmas / New Year but since hot cross buns aren’t available here (Easter isn’t that well known in Japan) what could we do? We ended up buying them from the local Woolworths supermarket just before we left, put them in our carry on luggage (they didn’t get squished at all) and pop them all in the freezer upon our return. They defrosted without any problems and toasted well this morning.
